Dhanbad, April 30: In a major push for industrial growth and skill development in Jharkhand, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, has announced the establishment of an extension centre at IIT ISM Dhanbad. A second centre is also planned for Ranchi.
The announcement was made by Deepak Kumar, Assistant Director of the MSME Ministry, during a special programme hosted at IIT ISM. He said the initiative aims to boost entrepreneurship, support industrial development, and enhance technical training opportunities in the region.

Advanced Facilities and Skill Development Hub
The proposed extension centre at IIT ISM Dhanbad will be equipped with advanced testing facilities for industrial products and machinery. It will also include state-of-the-art infrastructure dedicated to comprehensive skill development training programs, designed to meet the needs of emerging industries and local entrepreneurs.

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of MSME, Ircon International Limited (IRCON), and M/s Grant Thornton Bharat LLP (GT).
IRCON has been appointed as the nodal agency for implementation, while GT is serving as the technical consultant.
Over 100 industry stakeholders attended the event, including Rajiv Sharma, General Secretary of the Jharkhand Industry and Trade Association (JITA), and Rajesh Gupta, former President of the Federation of Dhanbad Zila Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Prof. Ajit Kumar, Professor-in-Charge of Innovation and Skill Development at IIT ISM, also participated in the discussions.
Representatives from Grant Thornton Bharat LLP shared updates on the MSME Ministry’s broader initiatives, highlighting that one of the 20 proposed technology centres across India will be established in Bokaro, Jharkhand.
