Washington, August 28: White House advisor Peter Navarro lashed out at India, calling the Ukraine war Modi’s war. He alleged that India’s purchase of discounted Russian oil has fueled Moscow’s aggression, which in turn has increased the burden on American taxpayers.

Navarro suggested that India could receive a 25% tariff concession if it stopped buying oil from Russia. He pointed out that the U.S. has already imposed a 50% tariff on India, which came into effect on Wednesday.

Speaking in an interview on Bloomberg Television’s Balance of Power program, Navarro said that the path to peace in Ukraine, to some extent, runs through India.

When asked whether the U.S. was in talks with India on tariffs and if any agreement could be reached, Navarro said India would immediately get a 25% concession if it stopped buying Russian oil.

However, while criticising India’s stance on tariffs as stubborn, Navarro also described Prime Minister Modi as a great leader, praising India as a mature democracy run by mature people. He said he was surprised at India’s approach, as New Delhi insists on its right to purchase oil from any country.

Navarro accused India of purchasing Russian oil at discounted rates, which Russia then uses to fund its war and kill Ukrainians.

He further claimed that India profits by refining the oil and selling refined products, adding last week that India buys Russian oil with the money it earns from selling goods to the U.S., processes it in refineries, and makes significant profits.
