Dhanbad, Oct 6: The sixth edition of the ‘Nurturing Future Leadership (NFL)’ programme commenced today at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad.

The five-day programme, being held from October 6 to 10, is organized under the aegis of the Malviya Mission Teacher Training Programme of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

It aims to equip faculty members from across the country with essential leadership and professional development skills. A total of 21 faculty members from various institutions nationwide are participating in the event.

Emphasis on Leadership in Academia
Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM), inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. In his address, he underlined the importance of leadership in academia, noting that participants would explore multiple dimensions of leadership through interactive training and engagement over the next five days.

The programme features 16 interactive sessions, two field visits—including one to Maithon Dam and another to the Geological Museum—and four days of yoga sessions designed to promote holistic growth.
Focus on Academic Excellence and Impact
Prof. Keka Ojha, Dean (Continuing Education Programme), highlighted the continuity and growing impact of the initiative. “This is our sixth programme in two years, and we look forward to conducting many more such programmes to address leadership challenges in academia,” she said.
She further emphasized that education forms the foundation of society. “As faculty members, our role extends beyond teaching—we are shaping future leaders who will drive the nation’s progress,” Prof. Ojha added.

Encouragement to Embrace Collaborative Growth
Prof. Mrinalini Pandey, the NFL Programme Coordinator, delivered the welcome address and encouraged participants to embrace the programme’s collaborative spirit. “Leadership requires adaptability, resilience, and a continuous commitment to growth. It’s not a one-way process—a leader is one who creates more leaders,” she said.
