Daltonganj, June 2: The Palamu police administration has initiated the restructuring of three town police outposts in Daltonganj as part of efforts to strengthen coordination and improve the functioning of urban policing.

Confirming the development, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kapil Chaudhary said the three outposts will continue to function and are not being shut down, contrary to reports circulated on some digital platforms.
“These three town outposts are to be restructured. The incumbent in charge of each of the three town outposts has been shifted to the police line,” Chaudhary told The Jharkhand Story.

According to police sources, the positions vacated by the transferred officers will be managed by the parent police station, the Town Police Station, until further arrangements are made.
Reports of Closure Denied
The SP clarified that reports claiming the three outposts would be closed were inaccurate.
He said the outposts are government-sanctioned and officially notified units, and the restructuring exercise is intended solely to improve policing mechanisms and strengthen their coordination with the parent police station.
“It’s an internal mechanism to further fine-tune policing in close rapport with the parent police station,” the SP said.
Focus on Accountability and Coordination
Chaudhary said the objective of the restructuring is to develop a work culture that functions in sync with the Town Police Station.
“The idea behind the restructuring of the town police outposts is to inculcate and promote such a work culture in sync with the parent police station and not to find these three outposts working diagonally opposite to the parent police station,” he said.
Police sources indicated that some outposts had been functioning with limited coordination with the parent police station, leading to concerns over accountability and information-sharing.
Urban Policing to Get a Boost
The three outposts operate under the jurisdiction of the Town Police Station and do not register First Information Reports (FIRs). Instead, they facilitate the forwarding of complaints and related matters to the parent police station.
Under the restructuring plan, the Town Police Station will play a more central role in day-to-day operations, with the outposts expected to function with greater accountability and responsibility.
Police sources said the move is expected to provide fresh impetus to urban policing, which requires a different operational approach from rural policing.
Officials believe the restructuring will help improve command, coordination and overall efficiency between the police station and its outposts.
