Palamu Woman Celebrates Wedding Anniversary with All-Women Blood Donation Camp in Daltonganj

Daltonganj | July 19:

In a unique way of celebrating her wedding anniversary, noted social activist and women’s rights advocate Sharmilla Verma organised an all-women blood donation camp in Daltonganj on Saturday, earning widespread appreciation for turning a personal celebration into a meaningful social initiative.

Verma, a resident of Belwatikar Chowk, is well known in Palamu for raising issues concerning deprived, marginalised and underprivileged women. She is also recognised for her campaign promoting road safety and creating awareness against road and National Highway accidents.

The blood donation drive was organised as part of her wedding anniversary celebrations, giving the occasion a larger community purpose.

According to local sources, blood donation camps in the region have traditionally been organised by men. Verma’s initiative, in which all the donors were women, is believed to be the first such event in Daltonganj, drawing praise from residents and social organisations alike.

The initiative is being seen as a model that could encourage more women to participate in voluntary blood donation and inspire families to mark personal milestones through acts of public service.

Sharmilla Verma donated one unit of blood and was joined by 13 other women donors. A few women who had come forward to donate blood could not do so after being declared medically unfit during the mandatory health screening. Organisers, however, appreciated their willingness to contribute.

The defining feature of the camp was that all the blood donors were women, making the event a rare and inspiring example of women-led community participation.

Residents hailed the initiative, saying it demonstrated how personal occasions such as wedding anniversaries can be transformed into opportunities to serve society.
