Palamu’s Masoom art group wins 7 awards at national drama competition

Daltonganj, June 11: Bringing laurels to Jharkhand, Palamu-based Masoom Art Group won seven awards, including the Best Play award, at the All-India Drama Competition organised by the All India Artists Association in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

According to Amar Kumar Bhanja, Vice President of Masoom Art Group, theatre teams from several states participated in the national competition. The group staged the play “Phir Milenge”, which portrayed the honesty of a truck driver, his commitment to relationships, and his role within society and family.

The performance received widespread appreciation from both the audience and the judges.

Seven Awards for ‘Phir Milenge’

The play emerged as one of the biggest winners at the competition, securing seven awards across various categories.

Saikat Chattopadhyay won the Best Writer and Best Director awards for scripting and directing the play. He also received the Best Actor award for his portrayal of truck driver Suraj Prasad.

Munmun Chakraborty was named Best Actress for her role as Sita, while Vinay Chauhan won the Best Lighting award for the production’s lighting design.

Shyamali Ghosh received a consolation prize for her performance as Savitri.

Other cast members included Amar Bhanja, Gulshan Mishra, Ujjwal Sinha, Raj Pratik Pal, Prakash Thakur, Prakash Kumar, and Rahul Chandravanshi.

The production featured Rahul Kumar on sound effects, Raja Sinha as music composer, and Manas Rai as lyricist.

National Honour for Saikat Chattopadhyay

Adding to the celebrations, Saikat Chattopadhyay was conferred the prestigious Sudarshan Gaur Kala Gaurav Samman, a national-level award presented annually to theatre artists for their outstanding contribution to the field of theatre.

Saikat dedicated the honour to the people of Palamu, acknowledging the region’s support for the performing arts.

Pride for Jharkhand Theatre

The achievement has been hailed as a significant milestone for Jharkhand’s theatre community, with Masoom Art Group’s success bringing national recognition to Palamu and the state’s vibrant cultural scene.
