New Delhi, August 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated 184 newly constructed Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament on Baba Kharak Singh Marg in Delhi. The ceremony was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla along with several MPs.

During the event, Modi highlighted that the residential complex, comprising four towers named after the country’s major rivers Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly, symbolises the life-giving role these rivers play for millions and is expected to bring a fresh stream of joy to the lives of public representatives.

He also took a swipe at the opposition, remarking that some might view the naming of a tower after the Kosi River through a political lens, associating it with Bihar elections, whereas the tradition of naming after rivers represents the unifying spirit of the nation.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla noted that, inspired by Modi’s vision, a record 344 new residential units for Lok Sabha members have been constructed over the past 11 years.

He added that the project was completed on schedule using modern technology and strict monitoring, resulting in a saving of around ₹46 crore. With this, adequate housing for all Lok Sabha members has been ensured.
