Dhanbad, Nov 29: Principal District and Sessions Judge and DLSA Chairman Virendra Kumar Tiwari, accompanied by a team of judges, visited Lalmanni Vriddha Seva Ashram in Dhanbad’s Sahyogi Nagar on Saturday to assess the implementation of government benefits for senior citizens.
The visit was conducted under the directive of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA), Ranchi, to ensure that elderly residents receive their entitled support.
Emphasis on Respect and Care for the Elderly
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Judge Tiwari highlighted the importance of creating a socially sensitive environment for senior citizens that addresses both their physical and emotional needs.

“Parents and the elderly should never be considered a burden. Giving them respect and protection is not only a moral duty but also safeguarded by law,” he said. He further stressed that the elderly are the heritage of society, and it is everyone’s responsibility to uphold their dignity.
Role of DLSA and Legal Aid in Supporting Elders
Additional Judge and DLSA Secretary Mayank Tushar Topno emphasized that elderly individuals are a treasure of experience, not a burden.
He instructed para-legal volunteers to ensure that no illiterate or helpless elder is deprived of their rights, and that they receive timely justice as well as financial assistance.
DLSA chairman Tiwari added that the visit aimed to assess the condition of elderly residents, many of whom have been abandoned by their families, and to ensure they benefit from government welfare schemes.

The inspection was attended by several senior officials and volunteers, including Registrar Civil Court I.Z. Khan, LADCS Chief Kumar Vimalendu, Deputy Chief Ajay Kumar Bhatt, DSW Sneh Kashyap, and several para-legal volunteers.
The Old Age Home’s management, including President Naushad Gaddi and Joint Secretary Surendra Kumar Yadav, also participated in the review to facilitate coordination and ensure the welfare of the residents.
