Kuala Lumpur, May 24: Indian badminton player PV Sindhu who is also a two-time Olympic medalist, advanced to the semifinals of the Malaysia Masters tournament on Friday.

In the quarterfinals, Sindhu faced off against Han Yue, the sixth-ranked shuttler in the world, from China. In a 55-minute match, she triumphed over her Chinese opponent 13-21, 21-14, and 12-21.
In the semifinals, Sindhu will play either Putri Kusuma Wardani or Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

In her previous round encounter, Sindhu fought hard against Sim Yu Jin, the 34th-ranked shuttler in the world, of South Korea. In a 59-minute match, she defeated her 21-13, 12-21, and 21-14.

Ashmita Chaliha defeated in quarterfinals
In another quarterfinal match, 24-year-old Ashmita Chaliha, ranked 53rd in the world, was defeated by China’s Zhang Yi Man with scores of 21-10 and 21-15. The match lasted 30 minutes.
Ashmita Chaliha in the previous round yesterday caused an upset by defeating the 10th-ranked Beiwen Zhang from the USA with scores of 21-19, 16-21, 21-12 in a 43-minute contest to enter the quarterfinals. However, she was defeated today.
