PINAKI MAJUMDAR
Jamshedpur, June 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain, thunderstorm and lightning alert for Jharkhand, forecasting widespread weather activity across the state over the coming week.

According to the IMD, weather conditions remain favourable for thunderstorms due to the persistence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and adjoining areas.

On Saturday, isolated places in northeastern districts, including Sahibganj, Pakur, Godda, Dumka, Deoghar and Jamtara, along with parts of Dhanbad, experienced thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.

The rest of the state was also expected to witness thunderstorms with similar wind speeds later in the evening.

Thunderstorms Likely Till June 12
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across most districts of Jharkhand from June 7 to June 12. However, northwestern parts of the state may witness comparatively lower weather activity on some days.
Meteorologists said the prevailing synoptic conditions are conducive to enhanced rainfall and thunderstorm activity across the region.
Monsoon Advances Further Across India
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced further into several parts of the country, covering the entire Goa region, most parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, sections of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, and additional areas of the Bay of Bengal and Northeast India.
The continued progress of the monsoon, coupled with favourable atmospheric conditions, is expected to boost rainfall activity over Jharkhand in the coming days.
Advisory for Residents
The weather department has advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning activity. People have been urged to avoid taking shelter under trees and to stay away from electric poles and other exposed structures during adverse weather conditions.
