Rajnath Singh calls for IAEA supervision of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons

Srinagar, May 15: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Srinagar on Thursday, where he interacted with armed forces personnel and reviewed the aftermath of recent cross-border shelling. During his visit, he inspected debris from Pakistani shells displayed at the Badami Bagh Cantonment, fired during recent hostilities.

Commending the armed forces for the success of Operation Sindoor, Singh credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The world knows that our army’s aim is accurate, and when they hit the target, they leave the counting to the enemy. How strong is India’s pledge against terrorism today? It can be known from the fact that we did not even care about their nuclear blackmail,” he said, praising the operation as a decisive blow against terrorism.

In a pointed message to the global community, Singh raised alarm over Pakistan’s handling of its nuclear arsenal. “The whole world has seen how irresponsibly Pakistan has threatened India. From the land of Srinagar, I ask—are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation?” he said, adding that “I believe Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be placed under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).”

He also acknowledged the strong public sentiment in Jammu and Kashmir. “The people of J&K have shown a united and powerful rejection of terrorism and Pakistan’s interference. I congratulate them,” he added.

Singh opened his address with “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and paid homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives, as well as the civilians killed in Pahalgam. “I salute the brave jawans and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he said.
