Jamshedpur, Dec 12: The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi centre released its Realised Weather Report for December 12, indicating a dip in temperatures across Jharkhand, with several locations experiencing cold wave conditions.

According to the report, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 23.3°C, showing a significant departure of –2.2°C from normal.

The city’s minimum temperature stood at 8.3°C, about –2.1°C below normal, reflecting the strengthening winter chill.

Jamshedpur also felt the cold, with a minimum temperature of 11.6°C, while Bokaro-Thermal reported the lowest minimum among major stations at 8.0°C, registering a steep departure of –5.0°C from normal—qualifying as cold wave conditions.

The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at Gumla 4.7°C, highlighting the severity of the cold spell in central and western districts.

No significant rainfall was observed, and dry north-westerly winds continued to prevail across the state, contributing to the drop in night temperatures.

Fog was reported at Deoghar, reducing visibility to 500 meters during the morning hours.

As winter tightens its grip, IMD has advised residents—especially in vulnerable districts—to take necessary precautions against cold wave conditions.
