Ranchi, July 16: Ranchi Sadar Hospital has become the first government-run hospital in Jharkhand to start an Outpatient Department (OPD) for plastic surgery, stepping forward to match the standards of corporate hospitals in providing super-specialty care.

The facility was inaugurated near the emergency wing of the hospital by Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar and Sadar Hospital’s Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bimlesh Singh, who expressed hope that it would meet patient needs and deliver quality care.

Senior hospital surgeons, including Dr. R.K. Singh, Dr. Ajit Kumar, plastic surgeon Dr. Tanmay, and Dr. Vivek, were present at the inauguration. Until now, plastic surgery OPD services in the city were available only at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi.

Range of Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeries to Be Offered
Dr. Prabhat Kumar and Dr. Bimlesh Singh stated that the OPD will cater to a wide range of procedures, including reconstructive surgeries for complex defects, cleft repairs, cosmetic surgeries, trauma-related interventions, maxillofacial procedures, hand surgeries, vascular reconstructions, microvascular surgeries, diabetic foot management, and burn contracture treatment.
In addition to launching the plastic surgery OPD, Ranchi Sadar Hospital has also introduced an evening orthopaedics OPD service, further enhancing patient care accessibility.

Plastic Surgeons Association Extends Support
Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh, Patron of the Bihar-Jharkhand Plastic Surgeons Association, welcomed the initiative and expressed his organization’s willingness to voluntarily provide services under Ayushman Bharat at Sadar Hospitals, if the government requests assistance. He noted that the new OPD will help reduce the patient load and long waiting lists at RIMS.
Dr. Singh also emphasized that members of the Association are ready to offer non-academic services at Sadar Hospitals and government medical colleges across Jharkhand, should plastic surgery departments be opened there in the future.
