Jamshedpur, Oct 25: St. Mary’s Church, Bistupur, is in a celebratory mode, thanks to its centenary year.
Though the Bistupur-based church, the oldest church of Jamshedpur, came into being in the year 1921, the centenary celebration is being held now because it was under renovation.
Inauguration and Blessings of the renovated church will be done on Sunday at 4.00 pm when the Archbishop of Ranchi, Rt. Rev Vincent Aind will grace the occasion.

Other dignitaries who will also be present on the occasion include Bishop of Jamshedpur, Rt. Rev Telesphore Bilung, Archbishop emeritus of Ranchi, Rev Felix Toppo and many priests as well as sisters.
The 100-year-old church has a new look now, and the renovation was designed by Rev Fr Jayraj.
Revealing about the celebration, Fr Jayraj said that St. Mary’s Church, Bistupur, is the mother of all Catholic Churches in Jamshedpur.

“As a span of over 100 years had passed since the church was established here in Bistupur, its renovation was needed. Once the renovated St. Mary’s Church, Bistupur, is inaugurated and Blessed, the church will emerge as a centre of attraction for the people living here and beyond,” said Fr Jayraj, who is also Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Church, Bistupur, while talking to the media persons on Saturday.
