New Delhi, Jan 7: The Supreme Court granted interim bail to self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu on medical grounds in a 2013 rape case.
A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal allowed his release until the end of March, citing his age-related health issues, including two heart attacks.
Asaram, who is currently serving a life sentence at Jodhpur Central Jail, is prohibited from meeting his followers or tampering with evidence while on interim bail.

The bench ordered that three policemen will accompany Asaram, ensuring they do not interfere with his medical treatment.
Asaram had appealed for bail, citing his worsening health and the need for advanced treatment, after being convicted in 2023 by a sessions court in Gujarat for raping a female disciple at his Surat ashram. The Gujarat High Court had previously rejected his request to suspend the life sentence.
