New Delhi, Jan 22: The Supreme Court issued a notice to Tamil Nadu on Monday, emphasizing that the rejection of permission for the live telecast of the Ram Mandir opening is not acceptable.

The Supreme Court stated that denying permission based solely on the presence of other communities in the neighbourhood is not justified.

Homogenous society: SC

During Monday’s hearing, the Supreme Court told the Tamil Nadu government, “This is a homogenous society; do not prevent only on this ground (that there are other communities).”

Justice Datta said, “What kind of reasons are given for rejection? Can this be a reason that a particular community is a minority, so you won’t allow the procession? Can a reason be given that Hindus are a minority in some places so you will not allow it? These reasons are atrocious. If this reason has to follow, no procession or ritual can happen across the state.”

The bench scheduled the matter for a hearing on January 29.

TN govt banned telecast and religious rituals

The decision was made in response to a Supreme Court plea against an order made by the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government that purportedly forbade live broadcasts of Ram Lalla’s “Pran Pratishtha” from Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir at temples located throughout Tamil Nadu today.

Additionally, the plea said that on the occasion of “Pran Pratishtha” of Lord Ram in Ayodhya today, the state government has banned all forms of “puja,” “worship,” “archana,” and “annadanam,” which involves feeding the impoverished, as well as “bhajans,” or folk songs.

The petition argued that the directive represented a violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed to Indian citizens by the Constitution.

Nirmala Sitharaman objected to TN govt’s ban

The ruling from the top court was issued in response to objections directed at the Tamil Nadu government by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman this morning. She posted a video of LED displays being removed from the Kamakshi Amman Temple on X.

She denounced the DMK party as anti-Hindu and claimed that by stifling people’s ambitions and employing police force, they are showing their hatred for Prime Minister. It was planned for Nirmala Sitharaman to watch the Ram Mandir inauguration’s live streaming from the temple today.
