Supreme Court eases GRAP IV measures as Delhi’s air quality improves

New Delhi, Dec 5: The Supreme Court on Thursday granted approval to lift GRAP IV measures in Delhi after the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) confirmed an improvement in air quality, indicating the measures were no longer necessary.

The GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) is implemented to address air pollution in Delhi.

The rising AQI in the city prompted the enforcement of Stage IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to combat air pollution. This stage includes a ban on Delhi-registered BS-IV and below diesel medium and heavy goods vehicles (MGVs and HGVs), except those providing essential services.

Earlier on Thursday, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) improved to the ‘moderate’ category, following a month of ongoing air pollution.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) on Thursday stood at 161, falling under the ‘moderate’ category as of 8 am.

After Diwali, Delhi’s AQI was in the ‘very severe’, ‘severe’, ‘very poor’, and ‘poor’ categories.
