Tata Steel Zoological Park concludes Van Mahotsav with ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ plantation drive

Jamshedpur, July 7: Reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation, Tata Steel Zoological Park concluded Van Mahotsav 2026 with a plantation drive under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, encouraging participants to dedicate a tree to their mothers while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

More than 90 students from Jamshedpur Women’s University joined Tata Steel Zoological Park employees in planting fruit-bearing wild species within the zoo premises.

The initiative aims to enrich biodiversity, strengthen natural habitats and create sustainable food sources for wildlife, in line with the zoo’s long-term conservation objectives.

Afforestation Key to Ecological Balance

Addressing the participants, Tata Steel Zoological Park Director Naim Akhtar described Van Mahotsav as more than a tree-planting campaign, calling it a nationwide movement to protect the environment.

He highlighted the critical role of afforestation in combating climate change, improving air quality, conserving biodiversity and ensuring ecological balance for future generations.

Akhtar urged students to become ambassadors of environmental conservation by undertaking plantation and awareness drives in their respective communities. He also stressed that protecting green cover and natural habitats is essential for preserving wildlife and maintaining ecological sustainability.

Van Mahotsav, celebrated across the country every July, aims to encourage mass participation in afforestation and promote a culture of environmental responsibility.

Through initiatives such as the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, Tata Steel Zoological Park continues to expand its outreach beyond wildlife conservation by engaging educational institutions and the local community in meaningful green initiatives.

The event concluded with a collective pledge by participants to nurture the saplings and contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and more climate-resilient future.
