Jamshedpur, Sept 11: The Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places in Jharkhand between September 11 and 14.

According to the weather bulletin, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from a depression over the northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining south Pakistan, passing through Bhuj, Banasthali, Agra, Barabanki, Varanasi, Daltonganj, Ranchi, Digha, and further southeastwards into the east-central Bay of Bengal.

An upper air cyclonic circulation over south Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh persists up to 3.1 Km above mean sea level.

In addition, a trough in the westerlies at 0.9 Km above mean sea level is running along longitude 86°E, north of latitude 22°N.

Monsoon activity remained normal over the state. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms occurred at a few places, while heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated locations.

The highest rainfall of 86 mm was observed at Putki in Dhanbad during the past 48 hours.

Met statistics revealed that Jharkhand as of today was facing surplus rainfall of 19 per cent.

Against normal rainfall of 882 mm the state has so far received 1, 053 mm of rain.
