Jamshedpur, August 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places across Jharkhand in the next 24 hours.

A low-pressure area persisting over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off the North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts, is expected to strengthen within the next 24 hours and move west-northwestwards.

This system, along with its associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level, is likely to influence weather over eastern and central India in the coming days.

The monsoon trough currently passes through Bhatinda, Ambala, Shahjahanpur, Varanasi, Daltonganj, and Jharsuguda before extending towards the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

This alignment is likely to aid moisture incursion into Jharkhand, triggering localised thunderstorm activity.

As of today, Jharkhand has recorded 36 % surplus rainfall this monsoon season.

However, rainfall activity has considerably reduced over the past 72 hours due to a temporary weakening of the monsoon over the state.

IMD officials have urged residents, particularly in lightning-prone districts, to exercise caution during the forecast period.
