New Delhi, March 24: As soon as the proceedings began in both houses of Parliament—Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha—on Monday, uproar ensued over the issue of Muslim reservation in Karnataka.

Amid the commotion from treasury bench members in the Rajya Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju questioned the Congress party, asking why it wanted to amend the Constitution drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for the sake of Muslim reservation.
Kiren Rijiju Accuses Congress of Dishonoring Ambedkar
Kiren Rijiju stated that the Leader of the Opposition and Congress President, who is present in the House, should respond to this matter. Due to the uproar, the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned until 12 PM, while the Rajya Sabha proceedings were suspended until 2 PM.

Before the Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge responded by stating that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar drafted the Constitution of the country, and no one can change it.

He emphasized that to protect the Constitution, the Congress had organized the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and questioned who had claimed that they were planning to alter it.

Interrupting him, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju argued that the Congress had dishonored Dr. Ambedkar by implementing the policies of the Muslim League, which Ambedkar had rejected.
Rijiju then played a statement made in the state Assembly by Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and challenged the Congress President to take action.
JP Nadda Criticizes Congress on Reservation Policy
Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, JP Nadda, stated that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar had clearly mentioned that reservations cannot be granted on the basis of religion. He criticized the Congress, which claims to be the protector of the Constitution, for implementing a provision of 4% reservation for Muslims in contracts in its government in South India.
Nadda further pointed out that Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister had stated in the state assembly that the Constitution would be changed if necessary. Mocking the opposition, he remarked that those who present themselves as protectors of the Constitution were the ones violating it. He asserted that the Leader of the Opposition should respond to these actions.

Rijiju Accuses Congress of Constitutional Hypocrisy
When the Lok Sabha proceedings resumed, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju raised the issue of Muslim reservation in Karnataka, stating that the Indian Constitution does not allow reservations based on religion.
He criticized the Congress, saying that a senior leader of the party, while holding a constitutional position, had suggested amending the Constitution to provide Muslim reservations. He asserted that such a move would not be tolerated.
He further accused Congress of talking about changing the Constitution in Karnataka while pretending to honor Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by displaying his photograph in Parliament.
Rijiju demanded the immediate dismissal of the individual holding the constitutional position, emphasizing that protecting the Constitution should be a shared responsibility.
