New Delhi, Oct 10: The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Maria Corina Machado in recognition of her relentless efforts to advance democratic rights in Venezuela and her work toward a peaceful and just transition from dictatorship to democracy.
The announcement was made on Friday in Oslo by the Norwegian Nobel Committee during Nobel Week, highlighting Venezuela at a time when global attention has been drawn to political developments in the country.
Machado, a leading figure in the Venezuelan opposition, played a pivotal role in uniting a previously fragmented opposition to demand free elections and representative governance.

This year, the Nobel Peace Prize received 338 nominations, including 244 individuals and 94 organizations.
The committee’s decision underscores the significance of promoting democratic principles and human rights amid ongoing political challenges.
The official announcement was delivered at the Norwegian Nobel Institute by Jørgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the five-member committee.
