Dhanbad, Dec. 25: The West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA) will organise the Blitz Chess Team Championship on December 27 to mark the 104th anniversary of the late Sitaram Rungtha.

Given this information, WSDCA general secretary Basant Khandelwal said that six teams will participate in this invitation championship, and their names will be declared shortly. The decision to hold a team championship was taken at the general body meeting of the association held on Sunday evening.

Rolling out the association’s annual calendar, Khandelwal said that the 4th Navin Kumar Sinha All India Open Rapid Chess Championship would be held from January 21, 2024, at St Xavier Boys School Chaibasa. Nitin Prakash, patron of the association, has offered to sponsor this all-India open championship.

At the AGM on Sunday evening, the association felicitated the budding talent of district Aniket Verma, who has been selected in the Jharkhand team to represent in the 52nd junior national chess championship.

WSDCA president Mukund Rungtha highly appreciated the role of office–bearers and members in holding tournaments in 2023 and promoting the game in the region.

Vice-president Jahangir Alam, Narendra Nath Pandey, Rakesh Budhia, Jaydeo Tripathi, treasurer Sunil Sharma, Sushil Choumal, Anant Lal Vishwakarma, Sunil Rungtha, Subrat Tripathi, Arpit Khairwal, Ishan Choubey and Purushottam Saraf were also present.
