Khunti, April 28: In accordance with the directives of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Khunti, on Monday launched a 90-day intensive Legal Awareness and Public Outreach Campaign. The initiative is being conducted under the guidance of Mr. Rasikesh Kumar, Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA Khunti, and will be implemented in three phases.

Prabhat Pheri marks launch

To mark the launch, a Prabhat Pheri (morning rally) was organised, with participation from judicial officers, panel advocates, mediators and DLSA staff. Carrying banners and placards, the rally started from the Civil Court premises and concluded at Bhagat Singh Chowk.

The rally aimed to spread awareness about free legal aid services, the toll-free helpline 15100, and various schemes of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA).

The main objective of the campaign is to reach every village in Khunti district, assess living conditions, identify people in need, and link them with suitable government welfare schemes.

Multi-level awareness programme

The campaign will include:

  • Door-to-door legal awareness drives
  • Legal Services Empowerment Camps
  • Distribution of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) materials along with inter-departmental coordination
  • Special awareness programmes for vulnerable groups such as women, children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities

The programme will also promote awareness of NALSA and JHALSA schemes, including the Victim Compensation Scheme and other welfare initiatives.

Focus on under-trial prisoners

Special attention will be given to inmates of Sub-Jail, Khunti. Authorities will review the status of their legal representation and provide free legal aid wherever required.

Efforts will also be made to reconnect under-trial prisoners (UTPs) with their families if contact has been lost. Additionally, the socio-economic condition of their families will be assessed and linked to schemes related to food security, housing and livelihood support.

Committees formed for implementation

To ensure effective execution, DLSA Khunti has formed dedicated committees and special teams for different areas, aiming for structured and targeted implementation of the campaign.
