Selangor, Feb 17: After defeating Japan 3-2 in a nail-biting semifinal match on Saturday, the Indian women’s badminton team advanced to the Badminton Asia Championship final for the first time in the competition’s history.
India’s victory has guaranteed them a medal in the competition as well. The final game will be against Thailand on Sunday.
Star shuttler PV Sindhu took the lead as she faced Japanese player Aya Ohori. Despite putting up a fierce fight, the Indian ace ultimately fell short against Ohori, who took Japan’s opening point by defeating Sindhu in two straight sets, 21-17, 22-20.
Treesa-Gayathri victorious
Treesa-Gayathri had to help India close the gap and tie the game after they fell behind 1-0. India battled back to tie the score at 1-1 after taking the Japanese duo of Matsuyama-Shida to three draining sets. In the end, the Indians prevailed in a thrilling set that ended 21-17, 16-21, and 22-20.

Ashmita Chaliha wins
With a 21-17, 21-14 victory over former world champion Nozomi Okuhara, Ashmita Chaliha gave India a 2-1 lead and put the country on track to keep up its momentum.
Sindhu-Ponappa lose
However, Japan was not willing to concede defeat easily. Miyaura-Sakuramoto put up a fierce fight against India’s Sindhu-Ponappa team, winning convincingly in two sets with scores of 21-14, 21-11, leveling the game at 2-2 and necessitating a decisive final match.Top of Form
Anmol’s win secures 3-2 victory for India
Anmol Kharb faced a high-stakes situation, tasked once more with aiding India in clinching the crucial victory needed to propel them to the finals. Rising to the occasion, she triumphed over Japan’s Nidaira Natsuki in two consecutive games, with scores of 21-14, 21-18, securing the decisive win and propelling India to the final of the championship.
