Daltonganj, Feb 23: Leopard is on the prowl in the Bareysanr range of the tiger reserve Palamu.

In-charge forester Pramjit Tiwary said the leopard has killed three domestic cattle in a very short span of time in the Bareysanr range.

It killed a cow calf at village Ramsailee in Bareysanr compartment 13. The calf belonged to the farmer Chungru Munda.

Tiwary further said the next prey of the leopard was a 3-year-old cow calf again but at village Pahar Kocha under Bareysanr compartment 12. The calf belonged to the farmer Shyam Kishore Singh.

There was one more kill of the leopard in the protected forest Chetma. The kill occurred in the village of Bandua. Here Bagheshwar Yadav’s ox was killed by the leopard.

Camera traps installed, official suspects more than one leopard involved

Forester in-charge Tiwary said our tiger protection force personnel Vikas Kumar and Rajiv Yadav along with tracker Permode Barwa found clear evidence of the pug marks of the leopard in and around the kill at all three different locations.

All three were leopard kills. From pug marks to the style of kill all showed it to be of leopard kill reiterated Tiwary.

Camera traps were also installed at the site of the three kills and it also recorded the arrival of the leopard which came late at night to its kill left by it to eat again.

Leopard remembers where its kill is and it never forgets to reach its kill. It is bound to go to kill.

Forester in-charge Tiwary said what is most surprising is that three kills in just a week’s time and that too every alternate day.

There may be more than one leopard doing it added forester in-charge Tiwary.
