Daltonganj, March 12: A peace committee meeting was held at the town thana’s premises. It started almost two hours late, but no member of the peace committee complained about the meeting taking off so late.

It was because of the plainest admittance of the inspector of the town police station, Deobrata Poddar, that “Right now this town thana has a very new set up. Officers have been replaced. The newer ones are yet to know the social milieu.”

Police inspector seeks suggestions

Poddar did not mince a word. He talked straight and meant business, asking the members to ‘pinpoint any problem or issue along with the suggestions’.

The president of the Palamu Chamber of Commerce, Durga Johri, a senior BJP leader, said, ” This time, the Holi celebration will last two days. Both communities should exercise restraint.”

“Youths play colour. Again, faithful will be having Roza. Hence, respecting each other’s sentiments is essential,” said Johri.

Deendayal Marg

Johri demanded that Deendayal Marg be closed for unknown reasons by the former set-up of the Medininagar Municipal Corporation and opened to the public.

Mumtaz Ahmad Khan said, “Peace and harmony are fragile in rural areas compared to urban areas. Passions run high in rural areas.”

Khan said, “Officers do not take calls. It is ignored. Such a situation is very discouraging. It should be avoided.”

Anti-social elements are beyond the control of any community, he reminded.

2-minute pause for Azaan

There was a 2-minute pause right in the middle of the peace committee meeting after Azaan came from a nearby mosque.

Zishan Khan wanted the street lights to be in order during the Traweeh prayers at night during Ramzan in almost all the mosques in the town.

A Municipal Corporation official advised the gathering to ‘save water, save life’. These two festivals require a lot of water, and Daltonganj town needs better water resources.

SDPO Mani Bhushan Prasad said in his speech, “Daltonganj town is vastly different from Hazaribag. It is a less stressed town. It has a high literacy rate.”

The SDPO added, “Here is intellectual tinge. It’s a great thing. We should all strive for Peace and harmony.”

He quoted a Hindi poet who said that it will exist if there is a passion for Peace and harmony. He used the term ‘shouq’ to drive his point home.

Inspector Deobrata Poddar concluded the session hoping to get full cooperation from both communities during the Ramzan and Holi.
