New Delhi, March 21: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday issued transfer orders to non-cadre officials serving in five states, Gujarat, Punjab, Odisha, West Bengal and Assam, who hold leadership positions as Superintendent of Police (SP) and District Magistrate (DM).
The officials slated for transfer are SPs from the rural districts of Ahmedabad and Chhota Udaipur in Gujarat. SSPs for the Punjab districts of Malerkotla, Jalandhar Rural, Pathankot, and Fazilka.
The DMs of Purba Medinipur, Jhargram, Purba Bardhaman, and Birbhum districts in West Bengal, as well as the SPs of Deogarh and Cuttack Rural along with DM of Dhenkanal in Odisha, have also been transferred.
In addition, because of their ties to the elected political leaders, the ECI has ordered the transfer of SP Sonitpur in Assam and SSP Bathinda in Punjab.

The decision requires all state governments to send a compliance report to the Commission and to swiftly transfer non-encadred officers from their current positions as DM and SP/SSP, effective immediately.
The decision was made following a meeting organized by the commission, led by CEC Rajiv Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
According to the Commission, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has stated time and time again how committed the Commission is to maintaining fairness and maintaining the integrity of the election process, and this action demonstrates that commitment.
