New Delhi, March 22: The Rouse Avenue Court on Friday granted ED custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until March 28, following a request from the agency for a 10-day remand.

In relation to the purported Delhi Liquor scam case, Kejriwal was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Thursday.

Kejriwal was presented before the court presided by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja.

AAP chief and Delhi CM Kejriwal was represented by senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Vikram Chaudhari, and Ramesh Gupta, as well as advocates Rajat Bharadwaj, Mudit Jain, and Mohd Irshad.

The ED was represented by ASG SV Raju and Special Counsel Zoheb Hossain.

During its arguments in the Court, the ED asserted that the Chief Minister of Delhi is the principal conspirator and central figure in soliciting kickbacks from businessmen. Additionally, the agency contended that Kejriwal played a direct role in crafting the Excise policy.

Senior Attorney Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was representing Kejriwal, argued against the remand request, arguing that the agency must demonstrate why an arrest is necessary. Singhvi maintained that there is a distinction between the necessity of an arrest and its power.

Singhvi remarked that this marks the first instance in the 75-year history of independence where a sitting CM has been arrested, and also the first time four leaders from his party have faced arrest. He added that it feels as though the outcome has been determined before the voting has even commenced.
