Ranchi, June 5: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organized a programme on World Environment Day and Drug Eradication at the International Library and Cultural Centre (ILCC), Ranchi.
On this occasion, CID DSP, Rajkumar Yadav, Inspector Suresh Prasad, founder of Life Savers NGO, Atul Gera, expert mediator, P.N Singh, LADCS advocate, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, law students, Ayushi Kumari, Nikki Kumari, Chanda Chaudhary, Roshni Kumari, Sneha, Asmit Patel, Ashutosh Kumar, PLV, Bhupratap Mahto and Raja Verma were present.
While addressing the programme held under the guidance of JHALSA Executive Chairman Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Atul Gera of Life Savers, an NGO, gave information about the importance of Environment Day. Then, focusing on drug eradication, he said that many villages in Jharkhand are in the grip of drugs.
“We aim to get the students who are addicted to drugs rid of their habit. Drug addiction will slowly hollow out the body of a person, after which the whole family will be ruined,” he said.
Gera said a Google form has been given in all the colleges so that drug addicts can be identified and we and the administration are working together on this. “At this time, we youth have to be aware, because despite not being addicted to drugs, we can be trapped in this work and sent to jail,” he said.
He asked students not to carry bags etc. anywhere on someone’s behest, it may contain ganja, hashish etc.

CID DSP Rajkumar Yadav said that due to modernity and increasing busyness, the balance of the environment is deteriorating today. “Due to increasing population, industrialization, and indiscriminate use of natural resources, the global temperature is increasing at a worrying level today. We can keep the environment safe only by planting more and more trees,” he said.
Thereafter, emphasizing drug eradication, he said that drug suppliers have increased in Ranchi for some days, and the CID team is continuously working on them.
“Some people have also been identified and many people are also being caught. Drug suppliers are targeting school and college students, so we appeal to you all to not come in contact with the people of the drug gang and not get trapped in this quagmire,” he said.
CID Inspector Suresh Prasad stressed that more and more awareness programmes should be organised in villages and towns regarding drug eradication so that the drug trade can be uprooted.
Expert mediator PN Singh said that Ranchi, Chatra etc. areas of Jharkhand have become drug cultivation areas. “Opium is being produced in large quantities in Khunti etc. It is also supplied to colleges. Both society and the administration have to jointly stop this,” he added.
Advocate Rajesh Kumar Sinha, while addressing the programme, explained in detail about the penal procedure under the NDPS Act, and what punishment the accused can get from the court.
He told students about the duty of the state under Article 47 of the Constitution.
