Dhanbad, June 10: One smuggler and three cattle died when a cow-loaded Bolero car fell in a ditch in the course of escaping from a police chase on inter-state GT Road near Kalyanpur under the Barbadda police station around, 13 km away from the district headquarters at the wee hour of Monday.
A police official said the incident occurred around 3 am. The Bolero was going towards Bengal. Having seen the police patrolling party’s torchlight, the Bolero driver tried to run away. The police, sensing suspicion, followed the Bolero.
However, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the construction of the lanes of the National Highway, and the Bolero fell into a roadside ditch.

Cattle smugglers using passenger vehicles to dodge police
Barbadda police station officer in charge Sunil Kumar Ravi told media persons that with the help of a crane, the Bolero was brought out from the ditch. A person was found dead in the crashed vehicle.
The police also found four cows packed in Bolero, out of which three had died. The body was sent to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
The police official said since the special drive is being conducted on the national highway against cattle smugglers, they use passenger vehicles to smuggle cattle to dodge the security personnel.
