Jharkhand News: MTMC Jamshedpur celebrates World Blood Donor’s Day

Jamshedpur: Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) celebrated “World Blood Donor’s Day” under the theme “20 Years of Celebrating Giving: Thank You Blood Donors” with great enthusiasm at Dr. T.M.A Pai Hall.

The event honoured individuals who donated blood and aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation in saving lives.

The celebration commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Dr. G Pradeep Kumar, Dean of MTMC; Dr. Maheshwar Prasad, Head of Outreach at MTMC; Nalini Rammurthy of the Jamshedpur Blood Bank and a member of the Rotary Club, who served as the Chief Guest; Ravindar Duggal, Joint Secretary of the Jamshedpur Blood Bank; Sunil Mukherji, Honorary President of the Blood Bank in Jamshedpur; and Mamta Priyadarshi, IFS – DFO Jamshedpur, who attended as Guests of Honor. They all emphasized the significant impact of voluntary blood donation.

Nalini Rammurthy expressed her heartfelt appreciation to all the volunteers who donated blood at the MTMC blood donation camp, highlighting their noble contributions and inspiring others to participate in voluntary blood donation. She noted, “Just one donation can save up to three lives.”

Nukkad Natak on blood donation

Sunil Mukherji and Ravindar Duggal presented a Nukkad Natak (street play) that showcased the importance of voluntary blood donation through real-life stories.

The play emphasized the urgent need for blood donors and the impact of diseases like Thalassemia, urging individuals to become champions of this noble cause and involve the youth in the blood donation movement.

Tree plantation program

In line with MTMC’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the event also featured a tree plantation program. Blood donors who participated in the event were felicitated by planting saplings, symbolizing growth, vitality, and the nurturing spirit of community solidarity.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Maheshwar Prasad, Head of Outreach at MTMC.

He stated, “The event successfully brought together a diverse group of individuals and stakeholders to promote awareness and highlight the importance of voluntary blood donation, making it a memorable and impactful celebration.”

He also emphasized the initiative’s aim to instil a sense of environmental responsibility while promoting the noble cause of voluntary blood donation.
