New Delhi, June 18: The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) interviewed former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday for the position of head coach of the Indian national team.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is the panel assigned by the BCCI to shortlist candidates.
The CAC consists of former Indian cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik.
The interview was conducted via a Zoom call, with both Gambhir and Malhotra participating virtually.
Gambhir is reportedly the sole candidate in contention, and the announcement of his selection is expected to be a mere formality, likely to occur within the next 48 hours.

The BCCI had informal talks with Gambhir during the 2024 Indian Premier League, when he assisted the Kolkata Knight Riders in winning their third title following his return to the team as mentor in November 2023.
The BCCI had set May 27 as the deadline for applicants for the position.
Rahul Dravid, the current coach of India, will step down after the team’s T20 World Cup campaign in the Americas concludes.
The BCCI had earlier stated that the new head coach would be appointed for a period of three-and-a-half years, from July 2024 to December 2027, and would lead the team in all three formats of the game.
