New Delhi, June 21: In protest against alleged irregularities in NEET-UG 2024, Congress workers, leaders, and students staged demonstrations in several cities across the country on Friday, including Delhi, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai.
Notably, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had written a letter to Congress leaders regarding this issue. The letter addressed to various state Congress presidents had called for large-scale protests at state capitals on Friday demanding justice in NEET-UG.
Congress supporters and workers, including UP Congress state president Ajay Rai, protested in Lucknow on Friday.
Ajay Rai told reporters that the government has failed to conduct even a prestigious exam like NEET in a fair manner. They have now cancelled the UGC-NET exam as well. “We want the government to take action against those responsible for this and secure the future of our children,” he said.
Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring demanded an inquiry under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge. He led the party’s state unit’s protest against alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam.

Student unions demand Education Minister’s resignation, wave black flags
Protests were also held in Delhi University regarding the alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. The students protested on the streets, raising slogans and carrying black flags in their hands.
On Friday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was supposed to visit Delhi University. However, due to the protests going on in DU, Dharmendra Pradhan had to cancel his program at Delhi University.
The students said that the NTA, which comes under the Ministry of Education, has put the future of the students in danger and alleged that the Education Minister has not taken any concrete action in this entire matter so far.
The protesting AISA (All India Students’ Union) members and other DU students waved black flags. NSUI and Left-supported student organizations have demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Congress’ student organization National Students Union of India (NSUI) alleged a scam in the NEET exam and said that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should take responsibility for it and resign immediately.
Demand for immediate ban on NTA
According to NSUI, students affiliated to it are protesting in more than 180 universities. All student organizations are demanding an immediate ban on the National Testing Agency (NTA), the body conducting the examination.
NSUI National President Varun Chaudhary says that many instances of irregularities and malpractice have come to light in the NEET examination process.
He questioned the credibility of NTA in conducting a fair and transparent examination. Accusing scam in NEET, he said that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should resign.
Chaudhary said that NSUI is organizing protests in more than 180 universities and 250 districts today. He said that if their demands are not met, NSUI will surround the Parliament on June 24.
