Calgary, July 6: Priyanshu Rajawat, ranked 39th in the world, moved into the semifinals of the Canada Open 2024 by overcoming world No. 4 Anders Antonsen in a dramatic 79-minute quarterfinal, with scores of 21-11, 17-21, 21-19, and is now aiming for his first HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 title.
On his path to the semifinals, Priyanshu Rajawat first triumphed over Denmark’s World No. 24 Rasmus Gemke in the round of 32 and then beat World No. 33 Takuma Obayashi in the last 16 round.
Priyanshu Rajawat’s opponent in the semifinals will be 2022 champion Alex Lanier, who secured a 21-17, 21-17 victory over third seed Kenta Nishimoto.
The second semifinal will see an all-Japanese clash between Yushi Tanaka, the US Open champion from the previous week, and Koki Watanabe, who overcame second seed Kodai Naraoka in a three-game match.
