Dhanbad, July 8: Eminent ophthalmologist of state Dr BN Gupta and Dr Rakeshinder Singh were unanimously elected new president and secretary respectively of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dhanbad chapter for the 2024-26 session.
At the AGM, held at Dhanbad Club presided by state IMA president Dr AK Singh, Dr Pranay Purvey was also elected as new treasurer unanimously.
The IMA Dhanbad chapter team has changed after a gap of six years. The last election through ballots was held in 2018. Dr BN Singh has replaced outgoing president Dr Major Chandan while secretary Rakeshinder Singh has replaced Dr Sushil Singh.
Dr Rakeshinder Singh was treasurer in the outgoing committee. Since secretary Dr Sushil Singh was out of the district for the last four years, sources said Dr Rakeshinder Singh had been discharging double responsibility in district IMA.

The IMA state president after the election expressed hope that the new team of the IMA district chapter would be able to address the problems of doctors and health centres of the region.
After the election, newly elected secretary Dr Rakeshinder Singh said that at present doctors of Dhanbad are facing extortion demand problems from anti-social elements. “So our first priority is to provide them a congenial atmosphere in collaboration with district and police administrations so that they could provide better quality of health services to patients without any fear and pressure”, said Dr Rakeshinder Singh.
IMA Dhanbad annual conference begins
Two-day IMA Dhanbad chapter annual conference began here at Dhanbad Club in which over 300 delegates (specialists of different faculties) from Jharkhand, Kolkata, Durgapur are participating.
Scientific chairman Dr BN Gupta, Dr B K Singh, Dr Major Chandan, president IMA Dhanbad, Dr Sushil Kumar secretary and Dr Rakesh Inder treasurer were also present. Dr Jimmy Abhishek and Dr Nikhil Drolia coordinated the scientific session.
