Daltonganj, July 18: Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar has issued a homely guidelines in the event of a snake bite.
There come one or two cases of snake bites every week. This extreme weather is highly conducive to snakes to crawl and pose danger to humans.
This year the number of snake bite cases has gone upto 70 plus. Last year, 186 cases of snake bites were reported.
Dr Anil Kumar said, “Panic and fear of the worst are the first two things that set off in the snake bite case. There is nothing like that. Stay calm. Avoid any physical or mental stress.”
He said, “We have seen people bringing in a victim of snake bite in a huge tight rope around the bite wound. This is very harmful. It should be avoided. Get the snake bite wound covered loosely. Wash it gently but no any cold wash.”

The civil surgeon added, “It looks only fantastic in Hindi films where the boy sucks the poison of the snake from the bite wound of his lady love. It may be good in reels but not in real life. This is rubbish. Never suck the snake bite wound. It is extremely dangerous serving no purpose.”
Just a few weeks ago there came a man with a live snake in a water bottle in the MMCH here. The man did it to convince the doctor that the snake that he brought with him had bitten his wife.
The civil surgeon said, “We understand the psyche of the man who so brought the live snake in a water bottle. It is for its identification whether poisonous or non poisonous. But this practice is most avoidable. Never bring any snake live or dead in the hospital. It may pose dangers to other lives.”
If possible take a photo of the snake that has bitten for its identification. But chaos prevails in a family where occurs any snake bite so where is the time to shoot the snake with camera.
Don’t kill the snake in any revenge of the bite, said the civil surgeon. What if the snake reacts with more bite?
There has been instances where snake has bitten near heart. In such cases the bitten one be rested with eyes towards the roof, suggests the civil surgeon.
