Dhanbad, July 20: The Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) has offered the Jharkhand State Mineral Development Corporation (JSMDC) for joint work in the exploration and production of Critical Minerals.
GMDC chief executive officer (CEO) Deepak Kumar Sinha while addressing the closing ceremony of the IIT ISM workshop as chief guest said though it is difficult to do things in government organizations in a society like GMDC we can do many things. “If required we can sign MoU with JSMDC for joint work in this field,” he added.
Exploration Geology Lab
The week-long workshop was organized by Exploration Geology Lab, Department of Applied Geology, IIT ISM on Critical Minerals; Nature, Recovery and Uses.
“GMDC is open for cooperation with any organization and very soon we will also hire experts who have served in relevant government organizations,” said Sinha, the former director of the Directorate of Atomic Mineral Exploration and Research (DAMER), Atomic Mineral Division, DAE, the government of India.

Geology should be conducive to utilise critical minerals
Over exploration of critical minerals, he said, we have to move towards the exploration of critical minerals by chalking out a well-planned strategy. “While planning we should also analyse, what is geology as the geology should be conducive for the utilization of that particular critical minerals,” he said.
IIT ISM deputy director Prof Dheeraj Kumar in his presidential address said that as exploration of critical minerals is very crucial, we are working to set up a state-of-the-art centre here on critical minerals to explore critical mineral deposits, which India is lacking at present.
“Curtin University has extended financial support for setting up of such a centre at IIT (ISM) and we will also be investing funds through our SPV, TEXMiN,” he said.
Janardan Prasad, Director General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI) also addressed the workshop.
Prof Mahendra Singh, coordinator of the workshop, gave a welcome address while Prof Sushant Sarangi, HoD, Applied Geology, lauded the organizers for organizing the workshop.
Altogether 45 experts and speakers attended the workshop and highly appreciated saying that they are returning with huge experience on the subject.
