Dhanbad, July 24: In the wake of the ongoing Shravani Mela, the Deoghar Municipal Corporation (DMC) has imposed a complete ban on the slaughter of all types of animals, the sale of meat, fish and chicken in Deoghar city for one month with immediate effect.
DMC Commissioner Rohit Sinha on the directive of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vishal Sagar has issued a notification for the month-long (July 22 to August 19) closure of all shops of meat, fish, and chicken in Shravani Mela.
“Besides it, the sale of liquor has also been completely banned along with the slaughter of animal and meat, fish and chicken in the area of Shravani Mela in the district,” said Rohit Sinha.

Legal action against those who violate the order
The notice, at the same time, has also warned that legal action would be taken on the spot if anyone is found selling banned items in the Mela area during this pious month. To ensure a complete ban on slaughter and sale of meat, fish, and chicken in banned areas, DMC has also set up quick response teams (QRT) to monitor the shops.
Close watch on 105-km Kanwaria path
A senior official of the district administration said that teams have been already deployed at the identified places where non-vegetarian items were sold but a close watch is also being kept on the 105 km long Kanwaria path from Dumma border of Bihar to Baba Baidyanath temple gate.
The official said the decision has been taken to ensure sanctity in the Mela area for lakhs of national and foreign devotees who come to offer Gangajal to the 12th Jyotirlingam per day.
