Ranchi, July 31: A week-long national workshop on ‘Statistical Methods and Research Techniques (SMART)’ for PG, PhD scholars and faculty members was organized by the Department of Animal Genetics & Breeding of Birsa Agricultural University with an objective to acquaint and hone up the participants’ skills with respect to statistical analysis of the research data for making it meaningful and applicable.
The topics included reference writing, review of literature, sample size calculation, research ethics and plagiarism, correlation-regression analysis, non-parametric test, multiple regression analysis and univariate and bivariate data analysis.
Organising secretary Dr Nandani Kumari informed that the sessions included theoretical as well as hands-on for each of the topics by experts of BAU, Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi, JIPMER Puducherry, BIT Mesra and CIP, Ranchi etc.

The 21 diverse trainees included scholars and scientists from Dr Shayama Prasad Mukherjee University, Ranchi University, Vinoba Bhave University, Govt. of Bihar and PG, Ph D scholars of BAU and other Universities.
Dr Sushil Prasad, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, BAU distributed certificates to the trainees. All the participants were very enthusiastic and confident post training and described their sojourn and experience as an enlightening one.
Sharing their feedback about the workshop in the valedictory session, trainees from different universities narrated how the training helped transform them from an amateur to a trained one in a short span of time.
The Dean congratulated the organizing secretary of the workshop, Dr. Nandani Kumari and Dr. Absar Ahmad for their herculean efforts and wished good luck to the entire team of the Department of Animal Genetics & Breeding for their future endeavours.
