SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Aug 7: On Wednesday at 8 am, an eight-year-old boy ‘Kanwariya’ fainted near the Baba Baidyanath temple on his way to offer Gangajal to the 12th Jyotirlingam.

A senior official of the Shravani Mela organizing committee said that as the boy reached the temple he suddenly fainted and fell. White foam began bellowing out from the boy’s mouth.

The police personnel deployed on the spot getting notice immediately got him admitted to the Baba Temple sub-health centre where a team of five specialist doctors under Dr Shatrughan Singh began treatment.

Boy is out of danger, says doctor

Dr Shatrughan Singh said that the boy was out of danger. He was provided intravenous therapy and life-saving drugs were administered.  He regained his conscience soon after treatment.

The official said the boy had come with ‘Kanwar’ along with family members from Sultanganj (Bihar) and fell when he reached the temple. Since 1.70 lakh devotees ( Kanwariyas) offer Gangajal daily on a normal day in Shravan, the boy fainted in the suffocation of a heavy crowd.

Super speciality health centre

The Deoghar administration has set up a super speciality health centre on either side of the 105 km long Kanwar Path (right from Dumma (Bihar-Jharkhand border to Baba Temple) at some distance, health services are provided to devotees (especially Kanwariyas).

A senior official of the Shravani Mela committee said that even a three to five-year-old child comes with Kanwar with his family to offer Gangajal to the Baba. Since it is a matter of faith, the administration can’t stop them despite the heavy rush of lakhs of devotees.
