Daltonganj, Aug 9: DGP Anurag Gupta’s fiat to go all out against the extremists saw an ‘elfin fish’ Maoist Sitaram Rajwar, 65, finally in the police net of Palamu. He was remanded in judicial custody today.

Sitaram Rajwar alias Raman has had 30 years plus in extremism but his journey to jail has been just one in Bihar only.

The Maoist cooperated with police: SP

Like the elfin fish, he remained free only to be caught in Palamu. Hussainabad SDPO Mukesh Kumar Mahto and his team caught him and didn’t put up any resistance. “Rather he co-operated with the police,” said SP Reeshma Ramesan.

The introduction of Sitaram is fearful. 30-plus years in extremism. 51 cases in two states, Bihar and Jharkhand. 65 years old but never had any thought to surrender to law.

Sitaram was caught at Jhapiya hillock

This long-serving Maoist at 65 years of age looked like fighting. He gave up to Palamu police only when he knew his luck had failed him. He was caught at Jhapiya hillock under Jhargara village of the Hussainsbad block on Thursday and remanded in judicial custody today.

Reeshma Ramesan said he handled Ak 56. “But when caught he had no firearms with him. His cadres might have escaped with it,” she opined.

Reeshma Ramesan said Sitaram’s arrest is a severe jolt to the Maoists as in Bihar his running Maoist Rajinder Singh was already in jail.

Sitaram has 28 cases in Palamu

She said, “This big catch is no case of any complacency on our part. Our DGP has directed us to mount extreme pressure on the extremists. The Maoists lost their bunker in Bokaro. Now they lost their man Sitaram to Palamu police. Our drive against the extremists will be intense and fierce. DGP is very clear to this that extremists be contained and curbed.”

On being asked if the Maoists will do a resurrection or re-organise or rebuild their dwindling strength Reeshma Ramesan said “The Maoists may try to do so. But our police are in total readiness to thwart their move.”

Sitaram has 28 cases in Palamu, 18 in Aurangabad and 5 cases in Gaya districts of Bihar.

He carried a reward of 10 lakh in Jharkhand while in Bihar he was a 3-lakh worth Maoist.
