Bengaluru, August 17: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is likely to encounter legal challenges after Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot authorized his prosecution in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, Raj Bhavan sources reported on Saturday.
The Karnataka government has stated that they will contest the governor’s decision to allow prosecution by approaching the High Court.
An order from the Karnataka Governor’s Secretariat on August 17 stated that the Governor directed the release of the Competent Authority’s decision to sanction the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah under Section 17 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 218 of the Bharathiya Nagarika Suraksha Samhitha, 2023, for alleged offenses mentioned in the petitions.
What is the case?
Previously, social activist Snehamayi Krishna lodged a complaint against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and nine others, accusing them of allegedly forging documents to obtain compensation from the Mysuru Urban Development Authority.
In the complaint, Krishna alleged that Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathy, his brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy Devaraj who asserted to be a landowner and his family were all involved in wrongdoings.
The complaint was registered at Mysuru’s Vijayanagar Police Station.
The complaint also accuses the deputy commissioner, tahsildar, deputy registrar, and MUDA officials of being involved in the same case.
