Ranchi, Aug 31: A remarkable initiative has been undertaken in Simdega district, where social activist Bharat Prasad set a new record in Jharkhand by adopting 340 Tuberculosis (TB) patients. At an official function held at the district Sadar Hospital today, he provided them with nutrition kits, a significant step towards making Simdega a TB-free district.

Record adoption and state recognition

According to officials from the state TB department, this is the first time in Jharkhand that a single individual has adopted such a large number of TB patients, marking a milestone in the state’s public health efforts.

The initiative was lauded by Simdega’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ajay Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sri Saurabh, Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) Sandeep Kumar Doraiburu, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramdeo Paswan, who all praised Bharat Prasad for his noble contribution and felicitated him during the event.

Commitment to TB eradication by 2025

Addressing the gathering, DC Ajay Kumar Singh emphasized the goal of eradicating TB from society by 2025, calling for a campaign to be conducted on a war footing.

“Simdega is fortunate to have social activists like Bharat Prasad who work alongside the district administration for eradication. We are confident that Simdega will achieve this mission by 2025,” said the DC.

SP Sri Saurabh highlighted the importance of community support for TB patients, stressing that they should not be shunned but instead aided in their recovery so they can lead happy, social lives.

Strategic plans for TB eradication

Rolling out the district’s TB eradication program, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramdeo Paswan detailed the extensive plans made by the health department to meet the 2025 goal.

“Sahiya workers will conduct door-to-door visits to identify TB patients and ensure they receive proper treatment. If all goes according to our plan, Simdega will be free from the disease by 2025 as per the TB-Free Bharat Campaign initiated by the Prime Minister,” Dr. Paswan explained.

At the event, the DC, SP, DDC, and Civil Surgeon distributed the nutrition kits to the TB patients, which were provided by social activist Bharat Prasad, furthering the district’s commitment to this crucial health initiative.
