Dhanbad, Oct 3: The Lindsay Club in Hirapur, representing the century-old Bangla community, organised a traditional cultural festival, ‘Matir Durga,’ to celebrate Mahalaya on Wednesday evening.
The event was inaugurated by Samiran Dutta, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), who served as the chief guest. His wife, Milli Dutta, attended as the guest of honour.
Other distinguished guests included MK Ramaiya, Director Technical (DT) of BCCL, along with his wife; Amlendu Sinha, former CIMFR director and president of the Lindsay Club; Salil Biswas, secretary; Sharmila Sinha; Arun Banerjee; and Vikash Kant Khan.

The highlight of the evening was the ‘Matir Durga’ musical dance drama, which portrayed the story of Durga Puja while addressing the oppression of women by malevolent individuals. The performance also showcased society’s resistance against such injustices.
Samiran Dutta and other attendees praised the artists for their impressive performance, which continued late into the evening.
The dance drama featured approximately seventy-five artists. Amlendu Sinha, the club president, underscored the importance of such cultural programs for the community, while secretary Salil Biswas expressed his gratitude to all the artists for their contributions to the success of the event.
