Dhanbad, Oct 9: Jharia Congress MLA Purnima Neeraj Singh stepped forward to assist a third-year student of BIT Sindri, Divya Prakash Mathur, by paying his overdue hostel charges. Mathur, who is in his 5th semester, had been struggling financially after the death of his father a few months ago, leaving him unable to cover his hostel and mess fees.
Mathur had previously submitted an application to the institution’s Director, Prof. Pankaj Rai, requesting a waiver for his pending charges. However, as there is no provision for waiving hostel and mess fees at the departmental level, Prof. Rai expressed his inability to provide financial relief.

Upon learning about the student’s hardships, MLA Purnima Neeraj Singh visited the BIT Sindri campus today and personally handed over a cheque for Rs 9,500 to cover Mathur’s dues. Prof. Rai praised the MLA’s gesture, acknowledging her timely help for a student in need.
Scholarship scheme announced in memory of late Neeraj Singh
In addition to settling the student’s fees, MLA Purnima Singh announced to launch a scholarship scheme for BIT Sindri students in memory of her late husband, former deputy mayor Neeraj Singh, who was tragically shot dead in 2017. The scholarship aims to support deserving students facing financial challenges.
