Dhanbad, Oct 14: Alleged tampering with a one-day-old grave at the Rajgan graveyard triggered tension in the area under Rajganj police station, located approximately 20 kilometres from Dhanbad district headquarters, on Sunday evening.
Baghmara Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Puroshottam Singh informed the media that the situation was calmed during the night, and the area is currently peaceful.
Police officials reported that around 6 PM on Sunday, a grave was discovered to be allegedly tampered with, which led to a mob from the minority community gathering at the Rajganj police station to demand action.
The officer in-charge of the police station, Alisha Kumari, along with Baghmara DSP Puroshottam Kumar, DSP Headquarters Shankar Kamti, and Panchayat Mukhia Bandana Barui, arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation.

No written complaint from family
According to officials, there was no evidence of significant tampering; only some clay had been removed from the grave. It remains unclear whether the disturbance was caused by humans or wildlife. Notably, the family members of the deceased have not filed a written complaint.
Following a complaint from Arshad Ayub, police detained two youths from the nearby Galli Kuti area on suspicion but later released them. A torchlight was also recovered from the grave site.
Involvement of wild animals can’t be ruled out
Panchayat Mukhiya Bandana Barui, who played a key role in assuaging the concerns of the agitated villagers, stated that while the incident was condemnable, proving intentional tampering was challenging.
