The elections for Maharashtra’s 288 assembly seats will be held in a single phase on November 20, with the results scheduled to be declared on November 23.

In a similar move in Jharkhand last month, Anurag Gupta was removed from the position of acting DGP on October 19 due to his history of election-related misconduct in previous elections. Following this, the Election Commission of India appointed Ajay Kumar Singh, the senior-most IPS officer in the cadre, as the new DGP of Jharkhand. Singh was selected from a panel of three IPS officers submitted by the state government.
