Dhanbad, Nov 11: The Dhanbad chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Orthopaedic Surgeons Association (OSA) have strongly condemned the recent assault on doctors at JIMS Hospital. In a joint meeting, both associations demanded swift action against the attackers responsible for the brutal incident.

Call for immediate arrest of assaulters

During the meeting, members expressed deep concern over the November 8 assault, urging the district administration to take immediate action.

The incident unfolded when family members of a deceased patient allegedly attacked Dr. Harsh Singh and attempted to break into the residence of Dr. Prakash Singh, following the patient’s death at JIMS Hospital in Karmik Nagar.

According to reports, the assailants assaulted Dr. Harsh Singh, who had come from Delhi to console the grieving family. They reportedly looted his gold chain during the incident.

Frustration over repeated attacks on medical professionals

IMA state president Dr. AK Singh, who was present at the meeting, expressed the growing frustration among doctors due to the recurring assaults following patient deaths in various hospitals. He emphasized that these continuous attacks had exhausted the patience of medical professionals. The entire incident, along with images of the assaulters, was captured on CCTV.

He further warned of potential consequences if the administration fails to take prompt action, saying, “If the administration fails to act against the assailants, doctors will be compelled to take drastic steps in protest, which will inevitably affect healthcare services for the public. We urge the administration to act immediately before the situation escalates beyond control.”

Support from medical leaders

OSA president Dr. DP Bhushan, along with IMA district president Dr. BN Gupta and secretary Dr. Rakeshinder Singh, also spoke at the meeting, voicing their concerns about the incident.

Other prominent doctors, including Dr. Major Chandan, Dr. Ashish Bajaj, Dr. Dhiraj Choudhary, and Dr. Aamir Parvej, were present to show solidarity with their colleagues and support the call for justice.
