Dhanbad, Nov 28: Dhanbad-based social activist Rajan Sinha has been awarded the prestigious Rex Karmaveer Chakra Award by the International Confederation of NGOs (INCONGO) for his outstanding contributions to the welfare of the poor and vulnerable members of society.

The award was presented to Sinha during the two-day annual function of INCONGO, held at Sriram Millennium School, Noida, on November 25-26. Sinha, a former cricketer turned social activist, is the first person from Dhanbad to receive this international recognition.

The Rex Karmaveer Chakra award is a global civilian honour given by INCONGO in collaboration with the United Nations. It is presented to individuals worldwide who have made significant contributions to ensuring social justice across various sectors.

The award has been constituted in the name of former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Rajan Sinha’s charitable endeavors

Sinha’s charitable work includes the “Feed For Life” program, which has been running since May 5, 2013, through his Rising Charitable Trust. This initiative provides lunch to more than 300 needy individuals every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.

In addition, Sinha runs “Amma Ki Rasoi” daily at City Centre at 8:30 PM, ensuring that underprivileged women receive a meal, often with sweets.

Furthermore, Sinha is a co-founder of the Tundi ‘Lalmuni Ashram,’ a shelter home dedicated to caring for elderly individuals who are abandoned by their families.

His trust also organizes an annual blood donation camp on December 3, marking the birth anniversary of India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

An auditor by profession, Rajan Sinha was a well-known cricketer in Dhanbad during the 1980s and 1990s. He credits his success in charitable work to the members of his charitable trust.

“Credit of this award also goes to members of Charitable Trust. We do not take donations from outsiders and contribute ourselves,” said Sinha, highlighting the selfless approach of his team in their community service efforts.
